CULTURED 77 12 THE STORY OF US The new Confluence Museum, located, fittingly, at the confluence of the Rhône and Saône rivers in Lyon, France, investigates human origins through anthropology, ethnology and natural sciences with an open design by Vienna architecture firm Coop Himmelb(l)au that reflects its mission. PHOTO COURTESY OF ESPASSO; © DUCCIO MALAGAMBA Maison & Objet—the biannual home and design show from Paris—makes its debut in Miami this May. Perhaps as a nod to the city's Latin American influence, the fair has named 36-year-old Brazilian talent Zanini de Zanine Designer of the Year. Son of the 20th-century titan José Zanine Caldas, Zanine continues his father's legacy, with both traditionally minded, woodworked pieces as well as industrial designs for the likes of Tolix, Slam p and Poltrona Frau. 14 VENUS' NEW ORBIT The seemingly endless flow of galleries to L.A. continues with the opening of Venus Over Los Angeles. The West Coast extension of Venus Over Manhattan will open with a Dan Colen show titled "Viscera" on April 18, followed by the young sculptor Elaine Cameron-Weir and ceramicist Dan McCarthy later in the year. 13 Adam Lindemann heads west with the new Venus Over Los Angeles.
